One Color or Two?

The students will explore how different colors are created. They will try to predict what will happen when the strip with the colors are placed in the water.

Materials

Plastic glasses
White absorbent paper towels or coffee filters
Colored markers (water based, not permanent)

Procedure

1. Cut white paper towels or coffee filters into 3cm wide strips.

2. Fold strip over the top edge of the glass so that it touches the bottom of the glass.

3. Remove the paper and color a stripe of green 6cm from the bottom end.

4. Fill the glass with 3cm of water.

5. Write down your prediction on your worksheet. What will happen when the strip is placed in the water?

6. Set the strip in the glass with the stripe 3cm above the water.

7. Record your observations.

8. Use other colors and make predictions about what will happen.

9. Be sure to record all of your observations on the worksheet.

Assessment:

Students will each complete a lab report paper.
